Visa, Vaccinations & Insurance

All Australians are required to apply for a Tourist Visa to Tanzania.

Up until September 2017, these could be obtained through the consulate in Melbourne, however they are now available on arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO). In many African countries, it is a requirement to have a valid Yellow Fever immunisation card, so you must obtain one prior to departure.

Immunisations can be provided by most GP’s and all Travel Clinics in Australia.

  • Yellow Fever Immunisation – Mandatory
  • Anti-Malarial Tablets – Recommended

Malaria is a mosquito-borne disease common in sub-Saharan Africa.  The liberal use of insect repellent largely minimizes this risk, however we do recommend anti-malerials.

Altitude Sickness

Most people climbing Kilimanjaro experience some form of mild altitude sickness (such as headaches, lethargy, etc.).

We recommend you obtain a course of medication such as Diamox to help alleviate any issues.

Please consult a medical professional for advice on travel medications and your personal circumstances.

Travel Insurance

It is a requirement that all participants hold Travel Insurance from your medical or general insurance provider.

Check to ensure your travel insurance covers:

  • Medical evacuation
  • Luggage coverage
